Symptoms of Depression Video

Depression is a complex disease that can remain hidden unless someone who knows the signs looks.  Many people don’t even know they’re suffering from depression, and 15 million of those people are in America.  2/3 of those never seek help.  Why is depression hard to spot?  Unlike depression, the answer is easy.  Depression is often confused with every day issues people face, such as remorse over negative event .  It’s therefore not easy to discern the difference between a danger sign and an every day experience.

Sadness is part of living.  For example we may become a little shaken when we reach the age of 40.  There are many who see this as some milestone of reflection that causes us to ponder and evaluate our lives.  It may be depressing to see that passed investment opportunity when you were 20 now worth a fortune.  That’s not depression.  Short term feelings and normal moods are not depression.  If not treated depression will last forever and will get worse and worse.  It may require years to get a handle on this illness.

Symptoms of depression include insomnia and binge eating, or starvation.  This isn’t to say a sleepless night or a day of over eating are symptoms, rather it would be an ongoing pattern.  Depressed individuals tend to recede into a shell.  Constant remorse and regret are common.  Their feelings of loneliness and despair are constant and real.  Sufferers want someone to help, but can’t find the courage to ask.  They may find it hard to relate to those around them.  Where they once may have been the life of the party they may now be barely noticeable.  Early stage sufferers exhibit these symptoms.

Depression in later stages creates a seeming incompatibility between the victim and other people.  Their employment and or educational activities will begin to be affected by their lack of communication and participation.  They find it harder to face others as well as themselves.  Eventually suicide becomes an attractive option to escape the worthless life they now lead.  Early detection is a key to avoiding this terrible end.  Depression victims can find assistance.  The proper care and treatment can return the victims from suffering  to normalcy.  Ongoing symptoms of depression should prompt you to look for help.  Lives depend on it.

Mental Depression Video

The term mental depression brings fear to those who hear it.  When you infuse the word mental into any illness it encourages some to believe that one has lost their mind.  But that’s not true.  Mental depression is a mental illness but it does not mean that you are crazy.  You have to free yourself from the age-old stereotype that has been associated with mental illness since the beginning of time.  Yes mental depression is a disease of the mind but it is a disease that can be treated effectively and you do not have to feel abnormal or inferior to other human beings.

Mental depression attacks about 15 million Americans each year.  Unfortunately only a third of those will ever seek treatment because they are ashamed to admit they are suffering.  Make health the primary concern.  Wishing away mental depression doesn’t work.  This illness will not be ignored.  It can affect anyone, anywhere at any time.  It doesn’t care about your color or the god you worship.  It has no care for financial or social status.  Age makes no difference.  The affliction has no limits.  As with any disease early detection is beneficial to treatment.  But since it’s so complex, mental depression isn’t easy to find.  Occasionally everyone gets sad.  Sometimes isn’t a word that applies to mental depression.

There are a variety of symptoms that may indicate mental depression.  Those that are suffering may tend to become loners.  Engaging activities may no longer amuse them.  Anxiety may increase and insomnia may result.  Changes in diet may happen.  The ability to deal with those around them may be impaired.  They can suffer many bouts of hopelessness and helplessness.  Their emotional and physical health will begin to show wear and tear.  People afflicted with mental depression may not notice the signs, so others have to notice the signs for them.

Many things can cause depression.  There is little doubt that ’stress’ plays a major role.  Many things cause stress.  There is stress in relationships, stress at work and stress about the ability to provide for your family.  Stress might come from the death of a loved one.  It is also believed that mental depression is passed on through the genes.  Many things cause depression.  There are also quite a few options for treatment.  One typical treatment revolves around ‘talk therapy’.  This allows those that suffer to talk out their problems and look for positive reinforcement.  There are also medications like anti-depressants and natural herbs that have been proven effective as well.  If treated, mental depression can be cured.

Bi-Polar disorder

major depression

When people discuss bi-polar disorder they refer to a condition known as manic depression. This is associated with unusual and quick switches from a good mood to a sour mood, when someone says wow, they’re bi-polar. This is a type of depression. Manic depression isn’t just having negative feelings over a negative event. Manic depression is more serious than that. Another stage of depression is the diagnosis for bi-polar disorder. Manic depression is diagnosed in millions of cases each year in America. Depression of some form touches 17 million Americans annually. Two thirds of those people will never seek medical attention or even a diagnosis. If you do not look for help than it is very hard to find a cure. Many Americans are hesitant to confront a disease that is categorized as a mental illness. Being crazy isn’t something people want associated with themselves. It’s very complex when a disease impacts the brain. When diagnosed there is a stigma that isn’t easy to handle. However, as with any form of depression, the affliction does not make you less a person. It doesn’t mean you’re insane. It means you have an illness like any other. Now that it’s found, the process of treatment can start. All forms of depression are still being studied by doctors and researchers. It has been shown that depression can be brought on by many possibilities. It is known that biological, genetic, and environmental factors have to be taken into consideration. It’s well known that a chemical imbalance can contribute. We also know that stress can play a major role in the advent of depression. Daily life brings stress, period. It can be problems at work, in our relationships with those we love or facing the reality of trying to survive week to week. Depression knows no bounds. It’s a disease for rich people and for poor people. It is not racist. Color or nationality provide no protection from this illness. All the types of depression have similar symptoms. The frequent change in personality, the mood swings that go up and then goes down. The advent of sleeplessness is another sign of depression. Helpless feelings, or feelings that the future holds no hope are signs. Depression is real when it interferes with your ability to live your life. But people with depression have a light at the end of the tunnel. There is assistance. Prescription medications as well as natural herbs can cure it. Psychotherapy can also help. Support groups can also be helpful for those with manic depression. There can’t be a cure until help is sought.

Severe Depression

Severe Depression Video

In its worst stages depression becomes severe depression.  Too many Americans will not seek help for this disorder until it is so severe that it takes years to bring under control.  Each year over 15 million people in America suffer from some form of depression.  The sad fact is that only one third of those suffering this disease will ever seek medical attention.  Historic stereotypes of the wild eyed insane hermit wandering the streets motivate people to try to cover up their problem.  But there’s no good fairy to magic away severe depression.  The condition gets worse and those afflicted will lose control.

Many sufferers won’t admit they show the signs of this condition.  Severe Depression is no reflection on you as a human being.  It doesn’t make you less of a human.  Like heart disease or cancer, depression is an illness.  Medical aid is required.  The normal symptoms of depression are multiplied in severe cases.  The intensity kicks up many notches.  It becomes harder to deal with every day situations.  You’ll be pulled deeper into yourself by feelings of hopelessness.  This disease can’t be avoided.  But it can be addressed.  Early detection is vital to success.

The ability to identify the symptoms associated with depression is essential in the process of diagnosis and treatment.  That’s because depression has a lot of effects.  The victim will begin to pull out of the world around them.  They find it hard to deal with those around them.  Hopelessness, helplessness and even remorse consume them.  They always seem angry and short tempered.  In the severest of cases those suffering from this disease may feel that they hear voices or believe they have received visits from the devil.  Severe depression sufferers often turn to suicide to stop their ordeal.  It takes treatment and a great deal of support from loved ones to help people with the disease..

Severe depression is terrible.  Normal life is no longer possible.  A loss of self control is a horrible prospect.  The only hope for this illness is treatment.  A combination of psychotherapy and medications are generally used to combat depression.  Discussing the issues in a support group can also be effective.  Once victims seek treatment they can be put on the road to a better life.  They can once again gain the self-control they once had.  But first the illness must be admitted and treatment sought.

Effective Ways of Treating Depression

Treating Depression Video

You have to understand depression before you can treat it.  Depression is no joke; it is a very serious disease that affects millions and millions of Americans each and every year.  The most difficult part of it is that about 2/3 of those people won’t seek treatment.  It’s the stereotypes associated with mental illness that plague far too many people.  They refuse to allow a label placed on them that might damage their good character.  To treat depression first it has to be diagnosed.  To be diagnosed, those that suffer have to seek assistance.  It is a circle that continues to affect all the players involved.

Depression stems from many things.  Depression stems from chemical, emotional, environmental and even physical causes .  Don’t overlook the genetic link.  Many diseases are passed on through a family.  It’s not just family history but also family dynamics.  Daily life includes tremendous stress.  The constant struggle just to survive bothers some.  For others the stress comes from making it in the world.  Then there are the circumstances where individuals have been abused physically, emotionally or sexually and are overcome with despair.  The list goes on and on.

The worst part about depression is that in the early stages it is sometimes hard to diagnose.  Someone you love may be suffering from this illness and you would find it hard to see obvious symptoms.  Everyone gets down in the dumps once in a while.  This is natural.  Real depression is a lot more permanent and serious.  When the symptoms begin to start taking over your life than the opportunity for early detection has been missed.  People with depression feel lonely and fed up with general living.  They no longer recognize any hope for their life.  Simple daily enjoyments and even sleeping are affected.  At this point treatment has become literally a matter of life and death.

In treating depression you have to reinstall hope and purpose into those that are suffering.  This is typically achieved through ‘talk therapy’.   This treatment can take months or years to bring about positive results but it is effective.  Anti-depressants like Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Celex, or Luvox can also help .  These medicines are effective but they come with some side effects.  Studies also show that some herbs can be effective as depression treatment.  There are also many depression support groups geared towards working with depressed individuals.  Medical professionals should be consulted if you or someone you know shows symptoms of depression.

Medical Depression Can Be Complex

Medical Depression Video

Depression is a medical condition.  Depression is comprised of many stages of illness.  They can range from mild depression, Bi-polar disorders or manic depression, all the way up to major depression.  Depression is no doubt considered a disease.  Although it is a mental illness it is no different than heart disease or lung disease.  It strikes a critical organ, the brain.  You aren’t somehow less just because you have depression. You aren’t crazy if you have it.  Just like other illnesses it can be treated.

Depression starts out as a relatively unseen illness.  Sadness is part of life.  When things don’t go our way we get down in the dumps.  Sadness does not equal depression.  Depression isn’t short term.  Depression is an illness that will stay with you on a consistent basis.  If the depressed mood seems to linger week after week and begins to affect your daily life than that is a sure sign of depression .  Radical mood swings are a sure sign of depression.  If you can’t sleep or you eat too little or too much, that means depression.

Medical depression has complex causes.  A variety of possibilities and causes have to be examined.  Stress is a major factor in depression.  We experience stress each day.  Stress is part of personal interaction.  Making ends meet when the bills are more than the income creates stress.  Raising children is stressful and so can result in medical depression.  Emotional suffering can bring on medical depression from stress.  Chemical, environmental and even genetic issues further complicate the situation.

Medical depression can be cured.  17 million people nation wide are affected with medical depression yearly.  Only 1/3 will look for help.  A cure isn’t possible without diagnosis.  Talk therapy as well as medications and natural herbs can treat it.  There are also many different support groups that allow you to associate with those who suffer and feel the same as you do.  You do not have to get through medical depression alone.  Such a disease isn’t self healing.  Medical professionals should be consulted if you or someone you know shows symptoms of medical depression.

Manic Depression Video

Manic Depression is another name for Bi-Polar.  When an individuals mood swings are very irregular with sudden changes from good to bad this is commonly associated with being Bi-Polar.  It is just another in the many forms of depression.  Manic depression isn’t just having negative feelings over a negative event.  Manic depression is more serious than that.  Bi-polar is just another stage of the general disease depression.  Millions of people in the United States are diagnosed with Manic Depression every year.  Typically, some type of depression yearly affects around 17 million Americans.

The draw back is that only a third of the potentially affected will ever seek medical assistance or get some type of diagnosis.  When the sufferer refuses aid, there can be no cure.  A lot of people refuse to deal with any disease called a mental illness.  The negative image of someone who is “nuts” is just too much for them.  Brain diseases are generally quite complex.  It is hard to shake the stigma that comes with the diagnosis.  But it’s not a sign of being less when this disease is diagnosed.  It doesn’t mean you’re insane.  This is a disease like any other.  It can be treated.  First it has to be identified.

The causes of all forms of depression are still being examined in the medical profession.  It has been shown that depression can be brought on by many possibilities.  It is known that biological, genetic, and environmental factors have to be taken into consideration.  A chemical imbalance in the brain helps cause it.  Stress is another major factor in depression.  Life is full of stress.  Work related issues or the dynamics of a dysfunctional family can create it.  Depression knows no bounds.  It can affect the rich and the poor.  It is not racist.  No color or nationality is free from this illness.

There are similar symptoms no matter the type of depression.  Dramatic shifts in personality and up and down mood swings are some.  Insomnia is another symptom for depression.  The feeling of helplessness, hopelessness and Desperation.  When your ability to function properly at work and at play becomes ever apparent then the possibility of depression is real.  But people with depression have a light at the end of the tunnel.  There is assistance.  Doctors can administer drugs or herbal remedies to treat it.  Psychotherapy can also help.  Support groups can be of assistance with manic depression.  There can’t be a cure until help is sought.

Forms and Cures For Depression

Cures For Depression Video

Depression takes many different forms.  Without realizing it or accepting it, many Americans suffer from some sort of depression.  It is estimated that some 14 million Americans are affected by depression.  Fewer than 4.7 million of those, about 1/3, will seek medical help.  Why is this the case?  Perhaps it is because depression is classified as a mental illness.   That label is one people tend to avoid.  There was a time in our history when those who suffered mental illness were shunned by society.  In many cases those with slight signs of depression were locked away in state institutions for the mentally ill.  Times have changed now, thank goodness.  But what hasn’t changed are old stereotypes.  This motivates many people to hide their condition from others or even from themselves.

Depression is caused by many factors.  It is not a simple diagnosis.  Chemical balance in the brain, DNA, biology and even environment have to be considered.  Drugs, alcohol and stress all can play a major role in the development of depression.  These are all factors in causes depression.  In what ways can those who suffer from depression be treated?  There are many options for treatment and even cure, just as there are many causes for depression.  Which option is the best for someone who suffers with depression may be dependent on each individual on a case-to-case basis

Many claim they have cures for depression.  There are methods of treatment available that are safe and work efficiently towards a cure for depression.  Here are some of the factors considered when these options are examined.  Is the treatment proven clinically to be effective for depression?  If it is medication, herbal or prescription, does it have the proven amount of ingredients to induce a positive result?  Has the method been accepted in accordance with high quality control standards?  It’s time to take a look at some of the more accepted cures.

To treat many forms of depression doctors have typically prescribed a combination of drugs and psychotherapy.  SSRI, or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, are prescribed to treat depression.  One of the most popular, Prozac, was first used in the United States in 1988.  Many others such as Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Celexa, and Luvox have followed it.  All have been proven to be effective.  However, prescription drugs are expensive and offer many side effects.  That is why natural cures are becoming so popular today.  A popular herbal cure is St. Johns Wort extract.  In order to work it must contain between 3 and 5 % hyperforin.  Studies and actual cases show it to be as effective as Prozac but with fewer side effects.  Seeking a cure is important, but so is convincing people to get help. If you think you have depression, or if someone you know shows the signs, visit a doctor.
